‘Frozen’ Holiday TV Special and Broadway Plans Officially Announced
If you’ve been itching for more Frozen, you’re about to get a whole lot of it. In addition to the previously announced Frozen movie sequel, Disney has officially confirmed plans to take the hit animated blockbuster to Broadway. The stage show won’t debut until 2018, which gives you plenty of time to save up some cash and maybe have a kid who will be old enough to appreciate it by then.
‘The Stand’ Delayed as Director Josh Boone Targets Another Stephen King Adaptation
Josh Boone is kind of a major Stephen King fan, and it’s that fandom and devotion to the author’s works that helped Boone land the directing gig on the long-developing adaptation of The Stand. Although Boone already sold the author on his ambitious pitch for that novel (which may or may not involve a miniseries in addition to one or two films), the director has pushed that project back to tackle another King adaptation first: Revival.
‘The Wolverine’ Sequel Will Reportedly Begin Shooting in April
Aside from Hugh Jackman’s “Old Man Logan” tipoff during last year’s Comic-Con, we don’t know much about The Wolverine 2. Director James Mangold is returning to the helm of the upcoming sequel, which doesn’t yet have a formal title, though it is expected to hit theaters in 2017. According to a new report, we may be learning a lot more about Jackman’s final outing as the iconic X-Men character as filming is set to begin this spring.

January is a pretty dead month for new releases, but February has a few exciting prospects, chief among them Joel and Ethan Coen’s Hail, Caesar! For the second year in a row, every actor nominated in all four acting categories for the Academy Awards is a white person. All 20 nominees for Best Actor and Actress and Best Supporting Actor and Actress are white people, reigniting the Twitter hashtag #OscarsSoWhite. And while many of us are comfortable in our power to merely comment via social media, there are a couple of strong voices who are fed up and ready to do something about it: director Spike Lee and actor Jada Pinkett-Smith have announced plans to boycott the Oscars this year, while the host of the 2016 awards himself has called the Academy out for their persistent negligence to nominate people of color.
