MN State Fair Recommends You Skip Weekends

Whenever I think of the Minnesota State Fair, those images of thousands of fairgoers crammed into the State Fairgrounds gives me the creeps and this happened even before the COVID pandemic hit the country.

One would think that under the current circumstances, that some pretty detailed precautions would be taken to protect fair goers. According to WCCO there will no requirement from the fair for proof of a COVID vaccination or a recent COVID test.

Masks are not required but strongly recommended, especially for indoor activities at the fair and places where there are large outdoor crowds. There will also be no crowd size  restrictions.

The fair stresses that due to the circumstances this year that fair attendees "do the right thing"

“The current health situation is not an ideal backdrop for the Great Minnesota Get-Together tradition,” fair officials said in a release Wednesday. “We understand that by urging rather than requiring people to follow current guidance, many of our usual fair fans will not be comfortable attending. We ask that those who attend do so because they are willing to follow our health guidance.”

It's also advised that if possible, attend the fair on a weekday and avoid the much larger weekend crowds. The fair will have current up to date crowd size information posted on their website

My own advise would be that if you are not feeling well, stay home and go the fair another day.  Maybe reconsider getting vaccinated if you haven't already done so. Bring facemasks and use them where needed out of consideration for others at the fair.

“Before you visit, make sure you’ve considered your personal health situation and how you can best keep yourself and those close to you safe and healthy. The Minnesota Department of Health advises individuals who are not yet fully vaccinated for COVID-19, immunocompromised individuals and their caregivers to reduce their risk by using layered protections such as avoiding large gatherings and wearing a face mask indoors and outdoors when social distancing is not possible,” fair officials said. “If you’re fully vaccinated, thank you! That’s the best thing you can do for yourself and for everyone.”
