Minnesota Drinking Age to Be Lowered?
Should the Minnesota drinking age be lowered? One bill is suggesting, yes.
You might be surprised at how low it could be lowered too, should the proposed bill pass.
According to Eyewitness News in St. Paul (Channel 5), "Rep. Joe Hoppe (R-Chaska) authored the bill with hopes of curbing binge drinking among college students." Republican Representative Hoppe would like the new drinking age to be set at 19.
Here's my initial thought... are we really ready to give a 19-year-old the responsibility of monitoring their own alcohol intake? Would a change in the drinking age really curb binge drinking as hoped? Or, would it simply make it legal?
We all remember our college days, right? Is that 'nuff said? I have more questions than answers, truthfully. Perhaps we won't have those answers until the bill is passed.
According to Eyewitness News in St. Paul, Rep. Hoppe hopes to get the bill a committee hearing within the next few weeks.
