Zumbrota, MN (KROC-AM News)- Residents living in an apartment above a southeast Minnesota laundromat were displaced by a fire Monday evening.

That’s according to a news release issued Monday night by the Zumbrota Police Department. First responders were dispatched to the blaze shortly before 8:10 p.m. 

Police say the person who reported the fire was escorting occupants of the building the houses Main Street Laundry in Zumbrota out of the building.

Officers arrived at the scene within 90 seconds of receiving the call, the news release says.

The officers used their department-issued fire extinguishers to contain a fire that had started in one of the laundromat’s dryers. The Zumbrota Fire Department then arrived to fully extinguish the fire and ventilate the building. 

Photos from the scene indicate firefighters brought burning articles of clothing out onto the street to extinguish them.

No injuries to civilians or first responders were reported. The scene was cleared shortly before 9 p.m.

Officials say four people living in the apartment above the business are not able to return to their home at this time due to the smoke damage.
