Rochester Man Allegedly Assaulted Deputy After Courtroom Outburst
An incident in an Olmsted County Courtroom in May has resulted in a felony assault charge against a 30-year-old Rochester man.
Mahamed Abikar is facing a fourth-degree assault charge for allegedly attacking an Olmsted County Detention Deputy on the afternoon of May 25. According to the criminal complaint, Abikar became disrespectful during a court hearing and was swearing when the judge excused him from the remainder of the hearing.
The court record says two Detention deputies were standing near Abikar during the hearing and three deputies escorted him from the courtroom to the secure court elevator. It is alleged that Abikar resisted the deputies while he was being escorted and that he kicked one of the deputies.
The criminal complaint also alleges that, after he was secured against a wall to prevent him from kicking, Abikar spit at the deputy who had been kicked and the saliva landed on the deputy’s face.
He is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on the felony assault charge on September 21st.
