Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester City Council President Brooke Carlson today announced she will not be seeking reelection this fall.

Carlson, who previously had not been elected to a public office, was elected to the city leadership position in the 2020 following the retirement of City Council President Randy Staver.

She announced her decision in a news release, “It has been an honor of a lifetime to work with our incredible City staff, my colleagues on Council and Mayor Norton, and our community partners to usher our City from the height of a global pandemic to a new era of unprecedented public and private investment. I am truly humbled by my countless interactions with community members who are working hard every day to build the community of tomorrow. In my remaining time, I will do my very best to ensure our community is set up for success and then I will leave the City in the hands of our compassionate, responsible, and visionary leadership to carry forward the transformation.”

While announcing her departure from the City Council, Carlson indicated that she is looking forward to “explore how I can contribute in other ways to building a just and thriving community."
