Elgin, MN (KROC-AM News)- The State Patrol has released more information about the motorcycle crash that closed part of a Rochester-area highway over the weekend.

Authorities closed a more than four mile stretch of Hwy. 63 to allow Mayo One helicopter to land at the scene. 

The crash that triggered the closure, which stretched from the 75th St. Roundabout north of Rochester to Hwy. 247, was reported shortly before 6:20 p.m.

State Patrol Identifies Rochester Man Who Was Hurt in Motorcycle Crash That Closed Hwy. 63

An updated version of the state crash report says the motorcycle was traveling south on Hwy. 63 when it crashed after its operator lost control near the highway’s intersection with 30th Ave. Northeast.

39-year-old Michael Ray Nierman was identified as the motorcycle driver. The Rochester man was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of what are being described as non-life-threatening injuries. 

Nierman was wearing a helmet and alcohol was not involved in the motorcycle crash, the state report says.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, Wabasha County Sheriff’s Office, Mayo Clinic Ambulance and the Elgin Fire Department assisted the State Patrol and Mayo One at the motorcycle crash scene.
