One of the biggest mistakes you can make when planning a vacation is to not make sure you are aware of all of the events that take place in that city during the time you are booking your trip.

Chicago is busy enough, you don't want to be there when the city is overflowing with politics...That's right, the Windy City is the home of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, which means road closures, special security, and, let's be honest, protests, will take over Chicago on August 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd. According to NBC Chicago...

"The DNC will be held between Aug. 19 and Aug. 22, and is expected to draw more than 5,000 delegates, 20,000 media members and as many as 50,000 visitors. Organizers also expect the convention to draw thousands of protesters, likely bringing the highest amount of protesters to the city since the 2012 Chicago NATO summit."

Do go to Chicago

If you haven't been to Chicago during the summer it is fantastic, Lake Michigan with its beaches feels like Miami, Navy Pier, the Riverwalk, Baseball at Wrigley Field, shopping on Michigan Ave, concerts in Millenium Park near the Bean, the FREE Lincoln Park Zoo, that's just the surface of what is great about Chicago in the summertime. So do plan a trip to the Second City in 2024, I would just suggest avoiding August 19th-22nd... Unless you are into political conventions.
