Not many video games can claim that they created a whole new genre. This year marks the 25th anniversary of RollerCoaster Tycoon, the addictive theme park building game that spawned sequels and countless imitators.

RCT is on my Mount Rushmore of video games – it was something completely different when it came out, and gamers of all ages sunk endless hours into crafting the perfect coasters and parks.

To celebrate, Atari is releasing special merchandise, but Wisconsin gamers have an extra reason to be excited. A father-son duo behind Eau Claire's Artovision was selected to make a limited edition shadowbox featuring the game's iconic box art, hand-signed by Chris Sawyer himself!

A handful of other products are now also for sale, including a variety of mouse pads, t-shirts and sweatshirts, and other products, but the highlight is the limited edition shadowbox from Wisconsin. The limited edition shadowbox will set you back $199 and are made to order and shipped within 1 -2 weeks.

Wade Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Atari says, "Rollercoaster Tycoon is a rare game that continues to inspire joy among players 25 years after it was first introduced." Atari also dropped the bomb that they intend to "create new titles for the franchise in the coming years."

The theme park building genre of games lives on despite no new RollerCoaster Tycoon titles in over 10 years, but games like Planet Coaster, Parkitect, Park Beyond and others keep gamers addicted to building the coasters and theme parks of their dreams. The official anniversary of RCT is Sunday, so celebrate the anniversary by firing up the classic this weekend.
