Minnesota Vikings Sign Another Former Packers Player To Team’s Offense

While it happens all the time, where players end up moving to a division rival, there's a bit of a running joke about former Packers players winding up on the Minnesota Vikings.

The Vikings announced on Thursday that they have added tight end Robert Tonyan to their tight end room, marking the second addition the team has made at the tight end position this week.

Tonyan has 85 games of NFL experience, with 24 of them as a starter in the league. While he entered the league with the Detroit Lions in 2017, he's spent the majority of his career playing for the Green Bay Packers before heading to Chicago to play for the Bears last season.

He was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2017 by the Lions, then was cut before the start of the season. The Packers picked him up, where he spent the 2017 season on the practice squad before making his way onto the active roster for the 2108 season.

Tonyan played 68 games with the Packers between 2018 and 2022, collecting 137 receptions on 176 targets with 1,437 yards and 17 touchdowns while in Green Bay. After the 2022 season, the Chicago Bears picked him up on a 1-year deal where he had 11 receptions on 17 targets with 112 yards and no touchdowns.

Robert now completes his NFC North tour after being signed by the Minnesota Vikings. He joins fellow tight end Sammis Reyes, who the team signed through the International Pathway Program earlier this week after the Chilean-born player participated in the team's rookie minicamp.

Tonyan and Reyes join T.J. Hockenson, Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt, Nick Muse, and Trey Knox for players on the roster at the tight end position.
