Incredible Drone Footage Of Owatonna's New High School Going Up

The construction company behind Owatonna's new high school, Kraus-Anderson, recently uploaded drone footage of the construction so far. While it might be a little underwhelming to some, the amount of work that has already taken place in such a short time frame, they started grading and digging at the site this past spring, the video is really cool and you can get a feel for just how large the new school will be.

As for the 'old' high school in Owatonna, which is still being used until the 'new' school opens up in 2023, a citizens task force was created to determine what will become of the soon-to-be-former high school. The November Owatonna School District newsletter stated that:

The Existing Owatonna High School Citizens' Task Force will begin meeting in November to examine the future of the existing Owatonna High School facility, which will no longer be used for 9-12 instruction when the new high school opens in 2023. As a part of the November 2019 Bond Referendum, the community voted to approve question #2 which allocated funds for the conversion of portions of the building for District use. As a part of this funding request, the District committed to engaging the community about the future of the facility, and this Existing OHS Citizens’ Task Force is a part of that process. The task force will review and discuss ideas submitted by the community, discuss potential partnerships with other entities, and make a recommendation to the school board as to the proposed scope of the renovation project, including areas to be remodeled and areas to potentially demolish. It is expected that their recommendation will be ready for the Board by late January-early February.

Also making the move to the new school will be the athletics field, you can see some of the large light poles have already been erected in parts of the video.

For many, 2023 can't come soon enough, but it's nice to know that the current high school will find use after it's served its purpose at the end of the 2022 school year.
