Every year, the Girl Scouts of the United States sell their amazing cookies in what is one of their biggest fund raisers of the year. Unfortunately, thousands of cookies went unsold due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S. hard in the midst of cookie season, so many girls and councils haven’t been able to sell their inventory due to social distancing and other safety precautions -GSUSA

 

Girl Scout cookie season normally takes place from January to late April, but due to COVID-19 the season ended prematurely. Because of this, many troops and their families were left with more boxes of cookies that you can count! According to a report from Today, Wendy Haseley, a troop leader from Niagara County, NY, has stated that her girls have struggled with sales of cookies due to big events being cancelled that they would normally have booths set up at.

“I have two girls in my troop who usually sell 2,500 boxes each, so I order enough cookies at the beginning (of the season) to have on hand for them. They would normally sell between 750 and 1,000 boxes at the St. Patrick’s Day parades — but those were canceled."

 

Not just in New York, but here locally the GSUSA have altered their selling routine. Instead of setting up at grocery stores and local events, sales have shifted online in hopes to continue to raise funds! This digital platform is called Cookie Care, and allows one to purchase, or donate, cookies. By using your local area code, you are then able to buy your Samoas or Thin Mints to support your local Scouts!
