Tis the season, and I don't mean the holiday season. It's the season that seems to find everyone sick, with colds, or worse, the flu. It is definitely recommended that we all get our flu shots, but, when the common cold comes along what are we supposed to do?

My daughter caught a doozy of a cold, cough, runny nose, sore throat, and slight fever. Well, since it is a virus, and since there doesn't seem to be any cure for the cold on the horizon, all a person can do is treat the symptoms.

Chicken noodle soup is a favorite in our house for a cold, along with a lot of hot beverages, hot cocoa, hot tea, even coffee. Anything to keep the throat lubricated, and soothed. This is in addition to the extra water, as staying hydrated is the best thing.

Now some people won't take anything, but, we believe in taking over the counter medicines for when the cold is interfering with normal life, and cough drops are a huge help for us as well.  Let's not forget that we wash our hands even more to avoid spreading the cold.

When the cold season starts, what are your tried and true methods to treat it? Or, are you the type to suffer through a common cold but treat it if it gets worse?
