As has been the case with all other holidays over the last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released coronavirus-related guidelines for Super Bowl Sunday.

The NFL will be allowing 27,000 fans in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium for the game, including 7,500 front-line medical workers who are receiving free tickets.

CDC Guidelines for Your 2021 Super Bowl Party

Advice for Super Bowl Sunday mirrors that given for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas; the safest way to celebrate and watch the big game is at home with people that live with you. Gathering virtually is another safe option.

If you decide to host or attend a small gathering, the CDC offers these recommendations:

  • Wear a mask with two or more layers to stop the spread of COVID-19 to protect yourself and others.
  • Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you.
  • Avoid direct contact, including high-fives, handshakes and hugs.
  • Bring your own food, drinks, plates, cups, utensils, and condiment packets.
  • Avoid shouting, cheering loudly, or singing. Clap, stomp your feet, or bring (or provide) hand-held noisemakers instead. 😲
  • Stay home if you are sick or have been near someone who thinks they may have or have been exposed to COVID-19.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer.

A lot of these recommendations seem pretty unrealistic, which I guess, is why they the CDC says the best choice is to just stay home.
