Read Across America Day, promoted by the National Education Association, was observed on March 2. It got me thinking about the books I enjoyed reading to my kids.

Boy we have had some nice weather, and it looks like we will get more. Of course, Mother Nature likes to remind us that is not quite spring yet and throws in a cool day. We have had some fabulous days to get out and hurry the snow away. Let's throw snowballs while we still can...

Unlike Macaulay Culkin's character, I was left behind on purpose. My family has gone to California to visit some longtime friends. My schedule didn't allow for the trip.

It's been a pleasure covering Owatonna-area events for the website in 2015. And I have enjoyed sharing some personal happenings as well. Here are some fun ones from the year.  

I enjoy interviewing athletes and coaches. It felt a little different to be fielding the questions from Todd Walkingstick who hosts Beyond the Game on Owatonnalive.com.

We spent some time this month in Colorado. My wife has gone since she was a kid. For me it's been the past 20 years. Our kids have grown up with the almost annual trip to visit with their cousins.

I feel I experienced a taste of several cultures over the Independence Day holiday. It started with a soccer ball on a golf course and ended with the U.S. winning a football title.

Monday, Feb. 9 is National Clean Out Your Computer Day. It's celebrated on the second Monday of February each year. I think I'd rather climb Mount Everest.

No Super Bowl pregame show for us. My wife and I hit the theater Sunday afternoon to watch another of the Oscar Best Pictures nominees. We have now seen six of the eight movies.

I like Katy Perry. I don't like lip synching. I long for the day when the Super Bowl halftime artist just sang some songs. Paul McCartney did alright at Super Bowl 39.
