At this point in time (Friday, May 22) the Owatonna Early Edition Rotary Club is still planning to hold their 4th of July fireworks show. A few changes might be necessary to follow state guidelines for outdoor activities.

The fireworks display is held at the Steele County Fairgrounds in Owatonna. John Havelka with the Rotary said it's unlikely that the grandstand will be open. Revelers would need to follow safe social distancing rules. He realizes conditions can change, but feels fairly confident now that the show can go on, "We want to have it and think we can have it."

Fundraising is going on now for the 2021 show. Owatonna businesses Hy-Vee Foods, Ace Hardware, and Fareway Meat and Grocery are offering customers the chance to 'round up' their purchases in June with proceeds going to next year's Independence Day celebration. Havelka expressed some concern that regular annual fundraisers for the Patriot Skies show might be impacted by health safety measures.
