What started at 6pm contained over 85 lighted units traveling south from Rose Street and ending on the west side of Central Park.

Immediately following the parade, the trophy for the winning entry in the parade was awarded by this year’s volunteer judges, Ryan Gillespie, Jim Packard, and Vern Wilker. Unfortunately I did not attend and couldn't find out who the winner is, but on Downton Owatonna's Facebook the favorites included the Gingerbread house, The Polar Express, and the Star Wars Themed one!

One of our team members (and fellow community member) Rich had the wonderful opportunity to go and wanted to help share the experience.

The Lighting of the Lights ceremony followed with special guest, Anthony Young, who flipped the switch for the lights. Anthony was involved in a life-threatening car accident in July and is now on his miraculous journey of recovery. Joining Anthony on stage will be his girlfriend, Shantae. Then the OHS carolers rounded out the ceremony by performing a couple of holiday songs.

The celebrations also included Santa and Mrs. Clause in the Park as well as RE/MAX Venture and Cashwise Foods providing hot cider and cookies! Multiple stores were also opened to extended hours to share the celebration.

Previously in a press release informing the community about the event, quotes were shared about the love and appreciation for the lighted parade:

“I’ve lived here all my life and I never knew how FANTASTIC this parade was until I moved my business back downtown 4 years ago!” added Urban Loft business owner Nicole Arndt. “I wish I had been aware of this when my girls were younger – they would have loved it!”

Glenda Smith, Director of Conventions & Tourism, also shared the following:

It’s pretty easy to see why Owatonna’s Hometown Holidays is one of our most loved events by both residents and visitors to Owatonna. The Lighted Parade, Lighting of the Lights, Christmas in the Village, and so many other events that happen throughout the month are great ways to connect with our neighbors and the perfect time to invite others to our community. It’s so great to feel the excitement build as events get ready to kick off this season of celebrations.

Thank you to all who helped bring this celebration together and to light (hehehe) including all businesses, city members, and those of the Owatonna community. Happy Holidays!
