When you think of Wisconsin, you think endless farmland, Friday fish fries, and cheese curds on just about every menu. It’s not exactly the kind of place you'd expect to land on a list of America’s most dangerous cities.

But according to a new 2025 report from MoneyGeek, one Wisconsin city made the cut. And not in a good way.

The personal finance site analyzed nearly 300 U.S. cities with populations over 100,000, using the latest FBI data and academic research, factoring in both violent and property crime to determine which cities are feeling the biggest impact.

For perspective, Memphis, Tennessee took the top spot as the most dangerous city in the U.S. The numbers are staggering: a crime cost of $11,582 per person, along with 2,612 violent crimes and 8,603 property crimes per 100,000 residents.

No Minnesota cities made the list (we’ll take that quiet little victory), but right across the border, believe it or not, Milwaukee came in at #13.

Wisconsin's largest city aka Brew City has a lot going for it - Lake Michigan views, a great food and brewery scene, and the popular Riverwalk. But, unfortunately, it also came with some alarming stats: 1,438 violent crimes and 2,698 property crimes per 100,000 people, with a crime cost of $6,205 per capita. Yikes!

Rankings like this don’t tell the whole story, but they do offer a snapshot worth paying attention to.
