The Kohl's Corporation just announced that it will be closing 27 stores later this spring. Are any locations here in Minnesota affected?

Times are tough these days for the traditional brick-and-mortar retail stores. Many once-profitable brands, like Sears and J.C. Penney, have had difficulties keeping their retail stores open and have faced bankruptcy. Even the storied Macy's brand announced earlier this month that it would be closing 66 stores across the country.

And now comes word that Wisconsin-based Kohl's will also be shutting the doors permanently at 27 different locations as soon as this spring. A release from the Kohl's Corporation, which opened its first store in Brookfield, Wisconsin in 1962, said the stores marked for closing have all been 'underperforming,' and will be shuttered by April of 2025.

According to its website, Kohl's says its department stores in Minnesota 'are stocked with everything you need for yourself and your home - apparel, shoes & accessories for women, children and men, plus home products like small electrics, bedding, luggage and more,' it noted.

  • Bemidji

So just WHICH Kohl's locations are going to be closing, and are any here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes? Luckily, it appears that the Bold North has been spared! According to the release, Minnesota does not appear on the list of states where Kohl's will be shuttering stores later this spring.

However, the following states have single Kohl's stores that WILL be affected:

    • Alabama
    • Arkansas
    • Colorado
    • Georgia
    • Idaho
    • Massachusetts
    • New Jersey
    • Oregon
    • Pennsylvania
    • Texas
    • Utah

Kohl's says it's also closing two store locations each in Illinois, Ohio, and Virginia and will close 10 different underperforming locations in California. (You can check the full list of store locations that are closing HERE.)

The release went on to say that Kohl's will be closing its San Bernardino E-commerce Fulfillment Center this May and that all affected associates have been offered a competitive severance package or the ability to apply for other open roles at other Kohl's locations.

And while Kohl's said it still 'continues to believe in the health and strength of its profitable store base' moving forward. Of course, that hasn't been the outcome for many other stores over the years. Keep scrolling to check out 50 once-familiar brands that aren't around anymore and see how many you remember!
