Mankato, MN (MinnesotaNow)- Two children were killed in a fire at a Mankato apartment early Monday morning.

The City of Mankato also says a woman was airlifted to a hospital. Firefighters were sent to the blaze  around 2 a.m. 

Responding firefighters saw flames coming from the upstairs apartment. There were five people inside of the apartment when the fire started.

2 Children Killed, Injured Woman Airlifted Following Fire at Mankato Apartment

The deadly fire occurred at 233 1/2 Bradley St. A man and child had escaped the fire without injuries, officials say. 

The names and ages of the two children who lost their lives have not been released. Their names will be disclosed pending family notification.

Officials say the woman flown from the scene is receiving treatment for her injuries at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

The occupants of the lower floor apartment were able to evacuate without injuries, the news release says. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting local investigators with determining the cause of the deadly fire. 

Authorities say the deadly fire did not appear to have been intentionally set.  The investigation is ongoing.
