The driver lost control of the vehicle, which caused it to go down a steep embankment and enter the Mississippi River.

Brittany and Dustin were at the rest area when they saw the vehicle roll down the steep slope. Brittany immediately called 911.

Meanwhile, Dustin chased down the vehicle to help the driver, who the sheriff’s office says was semi conscious.

He freed the motorist from the vehicle as it was being swallowed up by the Mississippi by pulling open the driver’s side door. He then helped the driver to shore where the motorist received medical aid.

The vehicle was completely submerged by the time law enforcement arrived. The motorist was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the post says.

“Without the quick actions of Brittany and Dustin, the end result would have been a lot different,” the Winona County Sheriff’s Office says.
