The Faribault Falcons boys hockey team traveled to All Seasons Arena in Mankato last night and defeated the Mankato West Scarlets 4-1.

Falcons senior goalie Jacob Sherf nearly had a shutout stopping 22 shots to earn the Cashwise Foods and Pharmacy of Owatonna Delivery of the Game for delivering a great performance.

Mankato West had numerous point blank scoring opportunities that Sherf turned away.  The Scarlets didn't score until there was 1:41 to go in the game when Maddox Langworthy scored on a Gavin Villagomez assist.

The first period was scoreless with Faribault killing a penalty.  Both teams finished with 3 penalties in the game.

Faribault scored their first goal with 1:43 seconds left in the second period.  Junior Logan Peroutka buried the puck following a rebound offf a Owen Nesburg shot during a power play.  It was Peroutka's 4th goal of the season and Nesburg's 6th assist.

:35 into the third period freshman Tommy Kunze scored his 3rd of the season thanks to Peroutka's 4th assist.

At 6:46 Tanner Yochum scored his third goal of the season on Peroutka's 5th assist, Parker Morrow also had his 3rd assist on that goal.

Kunze also tallied a empty net goal with a second left in the contest for his 4th goal of the seasobn.

The Falcons finished the game with 28 shots on goal, Mankato West had 23.

The Scarlets started freshman Mason Schreiber in net and he finished with 24 saves.

Faribault improved to 2-3 in the Big Nine and 4-5 overall.  The Scarlets are 2-2-1 in the league and 4-5-1 overall.

The Falcons travel to Rochester to play the Century Panthers at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
