
Two Cats Perish in Stewartville Apartment Fire
Stewartville, MN (KROC-AM News) - The last couple of days have been very busy ones for members of the Stewartville Fire and Rescue Department.
A news release indicates Stewartville firefighters responded late Friday afternoon to a fire in an apartment building. It was reported in southeast Stewartville just before 4:30 PM.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the responding firefighters located and extinguished a fire on the first floor of the two level structure while searching the building for occupants and pets. The news release says two dogs and one cat were safely rescued, but two other cats did not survive.
Information about the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage it caused has not been released.
Earlier in the day on Friday, firefighters from Stewartville and the Rochester Fire Department were dispatched to extinguish a grass and brush fire in rural southeast Rochester. The fire broke out in the field near a home, but was contained without causing any damage or injuries.
Stewartville Fire and Rescue also responded to a structure fire Thursday night. It was reported around 9:30 PM at a residence in High Forest Township.
A news release says the responding firefighters found a large garage fully engulfed in flames, which were spreading to the home. No injuries were reported, but the fire appears to have destroyed the garage and its contents while causing extensive damage to a portion of the house. Officials have not said what caused the fire.
