Semi Truck Fire Slows Northbound Hwy. 52 Traffic in Pine Island Tuesday Afternoon

Pine Island Firefighters responded to the semi-truck fire in the northbound lanes of Hwy. 52 around 12:15 p.m. The vehicle caught on fire just north of the County Rd. 11 interchange in Pine Island

Responding firefighters found flames between the cab and trailer. The truck driver had gotten out of the cab and deployed a fire extinguisher to prevent the blaze from spreading, officials say.

Firefighters put out the fire and confirmed that it did not breach the cab. A damage estimate is not available.

Officials suspect the fire was caused by a blown tire on the semi cab. No injuries were reported.

Crews had the scene cleared by 1 p.m., the Pine Island Fire Department said.
