Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester School District is following the City of Rochester's lead in hosting a State of the District event on Monday.

For the past several years, the City of Rochester has held a State of the City gathering in January to discuss recent accomplishments and plans for the future. Now, the Rochester Public Schools have announced plans for its inaugural State of the District.

A news release says the focus will be on the three psychological needs that need to be met to enable young people to learn, develop, and achieve their full potential. Superintendent Kent Pekel will be providing an overview of how the Rochester School District "works to meet those three essential psychological needs for more than 17,000 young people in our community."

School district officials say the event also features musical performances from school bands and includes "observations from RPS students on the state of our schools, school system, and the city."

The State of the District is open to the public and will take place at John Marshall High School beginning at 7 PM. The doors will open at 6:30 PM.
