Rochester Man Receives Jail Sentence For Knife Assault
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man has received a stayed prison sentence for a conviction stemming from a knife attack on another man earlier this year.
Court records indicate 44-year-old Stuart Stephen Kruger was arrested on the night of May 23 after Rochester police responded to a residence in the 2100 block of Highway 14 East. The responding officers reported finding a man bleeding from lacerations on his head and back.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim told police he had driven to the area to pick up a friend, and was waiting inside his man, when he was confronted by Kruger over a text message exchange. The victim stated that Kruger allegedly struck him in the face several times with something that felt like it was made of metal.
The charges say the victim reported that he then exited his vehicle and saw that Kruger was armed with a folding knife. He stated that as Kruger continued to assault him, he was eventually able to throw him to the ground, but Kruger continued to strike him on the back until a female witness was able to disarm Kruger and secure a knife in her apartment.
Kruger was charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, but entered a guilty plea to third-degree assault through a plea agreement.
He has been ordered to serve three additional days in jail along with 30 days on electronic home monitoring. His sentence also includes five years on probation.
