Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A Rochester man was awakened by the sound of a catalytic converter theft Tuesday morning.

Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen said officers were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of 28th St. Northwest around 5:42 a.m. The victim reported being awakened by the sound of a saw, looking out a window and seeing a dark sedan at the end of his driveway.

The man said he then saw an adult male run to the sedan and take off in the vehicle. The man then discovered the car part had been cut off of his 2006 Honda CRV.

Police say the victim did not get a good look at the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle. Tuesday’s reported catalytic converter theft comes off the heels of another catalytic converter theft witnessed by a woman at Walmart north earlier this week.

The Rochester Police Department announced Tuesday that they’re joining the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office in offering special marking kits for catalytic converters. The kits are available for pickup in person at the Law Enforcement Records Division at the Government Center in downtown Rochester or at the North Station along West River Parkway. 

Those offices are open on weekdays from 8 AM until 4:30 PM.
