Rochester Man Accused of Attacking Another Man With a Knife
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man was arraigned today in Olmsted County Court on a second-degree assault charge stemming from an alleged knife attack on another man last night.
The criminal complaint filed against 42-year-old Stewart Steven Kruger says the incident was reported around 11 PM outside a residence in the 2100 block of Highway 14 East. The court document says Rochester Police Officers found another man bleeding from lacerations on his head and back after they responded to the property to deal with a report of an assault.
According to the charge, the victim told officers he had driven to the area to pick up a friend and was waiting inside his van when he was approached by Kruger who confronted him over a text message exchange. The victim alleged that he was struck in the face several times with something that felt like it was made from metal.
After he was able to get out of his vehicle, the victim told police he could see that Kruger was armed with a folding knife and that he continued to assault him. The criminal complaint says the victim indicated he was eventually able to throw Kruger onto the ground, but Kruger continued to strike him on the back until a female witness was able to pull the knife out of the man's hand and secure it in her apartment.
The female witness told police that she heard the two men arguing outside and went to investigate. She found both men on the ground fighting and then followed the victim's instructions to take the knife away from Kruger and call for help.
The criminal complaint also includes a statement from Kruger. He told officers that he pulled out his knife after the other man had grabbed him through the window of his vehicle. Kruger stated that he was taken to the ground and hit, but he did not remember what happened after that.
The court document says the folding knife was recovered from the witness's apartment.
Kruger was released without bail. He has been ordered to return to court for a procedural hearing next month.
