Cloud Peak is located in north-central Wyoming and Gardner had planned a three-day hiking journey, authorities say.

The news release says rescue personnel became concerned about the timing of Gardner’s summit. Searchers found his vehicle parked at the West Ten Sleep trailhead where he began his journey.

Authorities say teams searched for Gardner throughout the weekend. The search effort involved the use of multiple aircraft, electronic device tracking equipment, infrared radar and personnel from several agencies.

Teams have been battling rough terrain, high altitude, wind and storms that have made the search difficult and dangerous.

The news release says at least two rescue personnel have suffered medical conditions and that one team member had to receive medical care.

At last report, which was issued on Monday morning, the search effort remains ongoing. Foot teams, aircraft and canines have all been deployed, the news release says.
