Authorities say the missing man is 60-years-old. His name has not been released.
Responding officers tracked footprints made in the snow into the woods and requested additional assistance due the darkness and dropping temperatures, the news release says.
Multiple teams and the State Patrol helicopter tracked the footprints along the Cannon River but authorities did not find the man. The search was suspended around 2:20 Tuesday morning.
Officials plan to resume the search at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and to deploy additional search and rescue resources.
The news release asks the public to avoid the area and to not search for the man on their own out of fears a public search may hinder the search effort. A description of the missing man and dog have not been released.
