Latest Rochester Shooting – Self-Defense Claim Investigated
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A fatal shooting in Rochester early Saturday may have been an act of self-defense.
Rochester Police Communications Coordinator Amanda Grayson has released some additional information involving the investigation into the death of a 28-year-old Rochester man. Grayson says investigators have determined that a man taken into custody following the shooting was the person who called 911.
The man told a dispatcher that he had shot a man who had entered a residence and assaulted him. Grayson says he was taken into custody and questioned by detectives before he was released.
She also indicated that investigators have confirmed that the shooter and the victim of the shooting knew each other. There is no known threat to the public.
The shooting was reported around 1 AM Saturday at a home in the 4100 block of Manor Woods Drive Northwest. When officers arrived at the scene they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Lifesaving measures were attempted, but the man died at the scene. His name has not been released.
It was the third shooting, and second fatal shooting, in Rochester in the past two weeks. Rochester police earlier reported the death of 28-year-old Dahir Dahir in a shooting on the evening of November 21 near the intersection of 10th Street and 1st Avenue Southeast. No arrests have been reported in that case.
November 25, a Rochester woman suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound in a shooting in the 5100 block of 51st Street Northwest. There have also been no arrests reported in that case.
