Last Month Made the List of Top 5 Warmest Septembers in Rochester
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It may come as a surprise, but September of last year was actually warmer than last month.
The monthly climatological report issued by the National Weather Service shows the average temperature in Rochester last month was 65.4-degrees. That was warm enough to make it the fourth warmest September on record in Rochester, but September 2023 continues to be listed as the second warmest with an average temperature of 66.3-degrees.
The warmest September recorded in Rochester occurred in 1931 when the average temperature was just under 70-degrees.
The warmest day last month was September 21 when the high temperature reached 87-degrees. The coldest reading last month was 43-degrees, which occurred on both September 7 and September 23.
Last month is also listed by the National Weather Service as the eighth driest September on record in Rochester. The precipitation total for the month was only .77 of an inch. The all-time driest September in the city was recorded in 1953 when there was only a third of an inch of rain.
Nearly all of the rain recorded last month fell on September 19 when the precipitation total of the Rochester Airport was .72 inches. There were only three other days during the month with measurable precipitation.
October is getting off to a cooler than normal start. The National Weather Service says the normal high temperature in Rochester at the beginning of October is 66-degrees while the normal low temperature is 44-degrees. By the end of the month, the normal high will have fallen to 50-degrees and the normal low will be down to 32-degrees.
