Part of I-90 in Olmsted County To Close This Weekend for Bridge Demolition

Stewartville, MN (KROC-AM News)-Part of Interstate 90 in Olmsted County is set to close on Friday evening in both directions.

Construction crews began work on a bridge replacement project in the area marked for the closure on Monday. 

A multi-month detour to divert traffic away from the work zone also started earlier this week. The more than $3.6 million project is scheduled to be completed by early October, MnDOT says.

The road impacted by the bridge replacement project is Olmsted County Rd. 35 northwest of Stewartville. Although the project started on Monday, bridge demolition is set to begin on Friday and last through the weekend. 

Multi-Month Detour Underway in the Stewartville Area

The following detour for Olmsted County Rd. 35 traffic looking to cross I-90 got started this week:

County Rd. 35 west of I-90

From Hwy 63, motorists should go west on Co. Rd. 6 then north on Co. Rd. 8 to reach Co. Rd. 35 west of I-90

From I-90, motorists should exit at Co. Rd. 6 and go west, then north on Co. Rd. 8 to reach Co. Rd. 35 west of I-90

County Rd. 35 east of I-90

From Co. Rd. 8, motorists should go south, then east on Co. Rd. 6 and then north on Hwy 63 to reach Co. Rd. 35 east of I-90

From I-90, motorists should exit at Co. Rd. 6

I-90 Closure & Detour Planned During Bridge Demolition Near Stewartville

A MnDOT news release indicates crews will close I-90 in both directions at County Rd. 35 during the demolition. The closure begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 12. 

MnDOT plans to have the following detour in place during the I-90 closure: 

I-90 east: Take Exit 205, go east on Co. Rd. 6, go north on Hwy 63 and then exit to I-90 east

I-90 west: Take Exit 209A, go south on Hwy 63, go west on Co. Rd. 6 and then exit to I-90 west

The closure is set to end by 5 a.m. on Monday, July 15, MnDOT says.
