Former Southern MN School Employee Admits to Child Porn Charge
Owatonna, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man who was employed by a southern Minnesota school district at the time of his arrest has admitted to a child pornography charge.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Steele County last October, 30-year-old Jeremy Martin Alvarez became the target of an investigation by the Steele County Sheriff's Office after it received a tip from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The court document indicated the tip, in part, came from Yahoo included an email address.
The criminal complaint states that information was used to link the Owatonna man to an account on the Kik social media site that was associated with video downloads of suspected child sexual abuse materials. That led to the execution of a search warrant.
The charges against Alvarez say he told investigators "he had gotten into meth and coke and the he got hooked on child pornography during that time." Alvarez also told investigators that he has had the addiction for five years, but denied ever meeting with a juvenile in person.
Alvarez was employed as a custodian for the Owatonna School District when he was arrested
Alvarez was charged with five counts of possession of child pornography. During an appearance in Steele County Court on Thursday, he entered a guilty plea to one of the charges through a plea agreement.
Alvarez, who is scheduled to be sentenced in June, had worked as a custodian for the Owatonna School District.
