Federal Grand Jury Indicts Rochester Man on Gun and Drug Charges
Madison, WI (KROC-AM News)- Members of a federal grand jury in Wisconsin have returned indictments involving gun and drug charges against a Rochester man.
The indictment was handed down on Tuesday. The charges stem from the man’s arrest in La Crosse last month.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for Western Wisconsin says 24-year-old Jayvon E. Jones-Shields had a loaded .22 caliber revolver and a large amount of cocaine on him when he was apprehended on Oct. 18.
The indictment charges him with felon in possession of a firearm, possessing a loaded firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and possessing cocaine with intent to distribute.
The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the La Crosse Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. If convicted, Shields could face substantial federal prison time.
The investigation against Shields is part of the Justice Department Project Safe Neighborhood initiative, which is an effort to reduce violent crime through collaboration of local, state and federal law enforcement as well as state and federal prosecutors.
