Court records indicate Smith has four felony convictions which prohibit him from possessing a firearm. Lugar says Smith’s criminal history, which also includes a misdemeanor domestic assault conviction, subjects him to enhanced sentencing under the Armed Career Criminal Act.

Smith’s sentence was handed down on Wednesday. In addition to prison time, Smith was also sentenced to five years of supervised release.
