Arrest Reported After LeRoy ATM Heist, Chase Ends in Pickup Crash
LeRoy, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Mower County Sheriff's Office is reporting an arrest in connection with the theft of an ATM from a bank over the weekend.
A news release issued by Sheriff Steven Sandvik says deputies responded around 3:20 AM Saturday to an ATM alarm issued by the First State Bank in LeRoy. Deputies were also told that a full-size silver pickup truck appeared to have been involved in the theft.
According to the sheriff, the deputies responding to the alarm spotted a pickup matching the description of the suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. That led to a chase that ended when the driver lost control and the pickup rolled along a nearby gravel road.
The deputies reported seeing a man running away from the crash site. Despite an extensive search of the area, the suspect was not immediately located.
Sheriff Sandvik says a man matching the description of the suspect was eventually found and detained by Sheriff's deputies in Mitchell County Iowa. The person is currently being held as a "subject of interest."

The news release indicates the amount of cash stolen in the ATM heist and an estimate of the damages caused by the thief are not known at this time.
The Sheriff says the investigation is ongoing and anyone with useful information is encouraged to contact the Mower County Sheriff's Office.
