Snowbirds – Wanna Buy a Sailboat? It’s Only a Dollar – A DOLLAR!

There are some crazy things that you may find for sale on Craigslist.  I've seen almost everything you could think of, including underwear.  What in the world is that about?  Umm on second thought, I don't wanna know.

Anyway, now there is this sail boat that is for sale.  And it's only a dollar.  When you hear that, you may think - hey- that's a great deal!  Yes, but also, what's the catch.

And there is definitely a catch.

The captain of the boat, Allen Askar, is from Florida, and posted this "deal" on Craigslist after his boat was beached because of the battle he had with some huge waves.  He was headed for the Dominican Republic, and really didn't get very far.

Askar fought rough waters off Florida's coast for nearly 16 hours, he told WESH 2. “The wind was pushing me downwind and the waves were building up and also going down, meaning I need to surf waves,” he said. 

Here is the catch- It could cost between $20,000 and $25,000 to remove the boat, Askar said.  YIKES!  That's a hefty amount.  But - you get a sailboat out of the deal. If you have the cash, it might be worth it.  It would be fun for someone here in Minnesota to have a sail boat in Florida.  As long as you have somewhere to keep it while you are not there.  But if you are a snowbird, it might be fun to have when you are spending your winter in a warmer state.

Askar, the owner says he needs to find someone to take it off his hands within 30 days or face fines or jailtime, or a combination of the two.
