MN Cannabis Co. To Permanently Close All Retail Locations
A Minnesota cannabis company announced yesterday that it was closing all of its retail locations on December 1st due to 'difficult times'. The announcement on Superior Cannabis Company's social media page directed customers to 'support the stores one last time before we close.'
"You truly made the last seven years special."
Yesterday, the Superior Cannabis Company, with retail locations in Duluth and Austin, Minnesota, announced that it would be closing the retail operations in both cities due to 'difficult times'. However, the post indicated that once the physical stores were closed, the business's website store would still be selling products while the supplies lasted.
The retail locations are located at 125 North Main St, Austin, MN, and at 339 Canal Park Drive in Duluth.
Getting Out While The Gettings Good?
The announcement comes shortly after Congress passed legislation to 'open' back up the government after a 40+ day shutdown. Part of the legislation that reopened the government, allowing SNAP benefits and other financial support to be dispersed, bans any "unregulated hemp products that contain THC, the psychoactive compound found in cannabis. The newly enacted intoxicating hemp ban will target any hemp-based products with 0.4 milligrams or more of THC in a single container."
Congress has time to address the issue, but it seems many in the hemp and cannabis industry are worried about what that means for their businesses until then.

Here in Minnesota, we just got going with allowing the sales of recreational marijuana outside of tribal dispensaries. Still, even that rollout has been difficult as there are product shortages and lengthy governmental delays since it was legalized in 2023.
