Originally a box office flop in the U.S., Prince’s Sign o’ the Times has become a cult classic among fans and music lovers. Now, it's getting a rare, limited release on Hollywood’s premiere format, IMAX.

Prince’s Cult Classic Concert Film Is Headed to IMAX Theaters

The 1987 film was based on the widely popular double LP of the same name, which featured hits like “Housequake” and the title track. The concert film was directed, scored, and starred Prince, who played multiple characters in various skits and vignettes woven between musical performances.

IMAX Release Dates in Minnesota

Nearly 38 years later, Prince fans will finally get the chance to experience the film like never before. IMAX, Mercury Studios, and Filmrise have partnered with Paisley Park Enterprises to release the film in IMAX theaters worldwide for the first time ever.

The limited run begins August 29, with screenings in Minnesota starting a day early on August 28 at the state’s three IMAX theaters. Showings will run through Sunday, August 31.

The film runs 1 hour and 26 minutes and blends live concert footage, staged performances shot at Paisley Park, and dramatic cinematic scenes.
