Midwesterners are known for their hard work ethic and strong family values. That's why I'm surprised neither Minnesota or Wisconsin ranked high in this new study.

WalletHub put out a ranking on Monday (August 26th), putting each state in its place when it comes to being hard-working or for some in this case, not that hard-working.

According to WalletHub, Americans put in about 1,800 hours of work each year, which is high compared to those in other countries.

Nearly half of all Americans who put in all this work don't use their time off. What? That is just wrong!

So where does Minnesota rank on this list? We came in at number 21. WalletHub looked at how many hours per week we work, employment rate, number of hours volunteered and more.

The study also looked at average leisure time worked per day, and the idle youth rate. We do have one of the lowest idle youth rates but didn't shine anywhere else in this case.

Wisconsin didn't do too great in this study, either, coming in at number 33. What gives? Hopefully both states will do better next time around!

As for the most hard-working state, that would be North Dakota. Alaska, Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota round out the top five.

The least-hardworking? That would be West Virginia, New York and Michigan. Yikes. I'm glad we didn't make the bottom three!
