I stumbled on a video from YouTuber Base Camp Chris. He likes to hike in the woods and share scary stories around the campfire. (Well in this case a lantern.) He's a solid storyteller and I might just believe in the story he shared about a frightening encounter in Northern Wisconsin.

Chris wasn't the one who had the encounter. It was apparently someone he knew well enough that he had all of their names. In this episode, Chris tells the story while he's actually hiking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. But it turns out Chris is originally from Minnesota. That's where I presume he heard this story about Rhinelander, Wisconsin.

Now Rhinelander is known for a mythical creature called Hodag. They have the Hodag festival every year. We aren't talking about that. You can dig into that another time.

As the story goes a family was on vacation at a family cabin on George Lake, near Rhinelander Wisconsin. The husband and wife had three children. Chris goes into detail about the family dynamics between the kids. At one point their father heard the youngest son, Aaron arguing with his sister. She yelled at him "no, you didn't see a caveman. That didn't happen!" He was adamant that he had seen a caveman. This led to a big fight between the 6-year-old and his older sister.

The next day while the father, Steven, was working in the yard he noticed that Aaron was sitting in a lawn chair staring into the woods. He went up to Aaron and asked what he was doing. Aaron said if you sit long enough and quiet enough, the caveman will come out and you'll see him too.

The dad went and got a lawn chair and sat down next to him. They sat for quite a while with nothing happening. Eventually, the dad said he needed to go make a phone call and he'll be right back. While he was on the phone he saw something approaching his son. At first, he thought it was his neighbor, but then with a second look, he noticed it was tall, dark, and muscular. He even noticed that it had long yellow fingernails. He hung up the phone and ran out of the house yelling to scare it off. He caught a glimpse of it crashing away in the woods when he came around the corner of the house.

What was it? Steven is pretty convinced it was a sasquatch. There are more details in the video, and the way Chris tells the story makes it believable. He's got a lot of subscribers who believe his story. Check it out for yourself.
