Comfort food is defined as 'food prepared in a traditional style having a usually nostalgic or sentimental appeal'. Sure, it can be high in calories, but when it invokes such great feelings in those who eat it, does that even matter?

Comfort foods can be culturally or individually specific and examples include mashed potatoes, pot pie, beef stroganoff, chicken and dumplings, and baked pasta dishes.

When I think of baked pasta dishes, lasagna instantly comes to mind as a favorite comfort food and I'm not alone. A recent survey found that 82% of people consider lasagna to be popular, and 99% consider it to be famous.

So, where can we find the best lasagna in Minnesota? We now know the answer to that question and it's also the 20th best lasagna in America.

The Best Lasagna In Minnesota

When it comes to the Land Of 10,000 Lakes, the best place to get lasagna is also a place with a fantastic history.

According to its website, DeGidio's Restaurant & Bar, located at 425 7th Street W. in St Paul, has been 'a beloved fixture in the St. Paul community for nearly a century.'

Its story began in 1933, when Joe "Kid Bullets" DeGidio, a successful bootlegger during the prohibition era, opened DeGidio's Royal Bar at its current location when prohibition was ending. During Saint Paul's infamous gangster era, DeGidio's became a favorite haunt of notorious mob figures, earning a unique place in the city's colorful history.

They note that its mob ties were severed many decades ago and now it's the grandchildren of "Kid Bullets" who continue the family tradition of keeping DeGidio's as a proud family-owned and operated establishment, 'dedicated to serving exceptional Italian cuisine at reasonable prices.

Lovefood notes that DeGidio’s Restaurant & Bar prides itself on cutting lasagna pieces so large you can’t possibly finish it all, 'so (happily) you'll have leftovers to take home.' The delicious dish is made with Italian sausage as well as ricotta, Italian cheeses, and tomato sauce, it has a distinctive, slightly spicy kick to it.

It's also nicely priced at under $20.

A look at the vast menu proves that lasagna is just one of many delicious items that you can enjoy on a visit to DeGidio's Restaurant & Bar.
