Gold Scam Circulating In Small Town Wisconsin
They say diamonds are a girl's best friend but what about gold? We all want something a little shiny now and then.
That's what scammers are hoping for, at least. A new scam has been reported in small town Wisconsin and you should definitely know about it.

While some scams these days seem obvious, there are people more susceptible to them, like the elderly population. When scammers use urgency, like they often do, it creates panic and makes people even more likely to fall for a scam.
The scam in question that has popped up in Wisconsin isn't original but a new take on an old scam that the FBI got involved in.

This scam is also targeting the elderly. Like I said, scammers like to target the elderly which is absolutely awful. It begins with an email or phone call from a scammer pretending to be a government employee.
How This New Gold Scam Works
Once a victim is targeted by a scammer and think they speaking with a government employee, the scammer creates panic by saying the victim has a warrant out for their arrest. They are then told they can pay off the warrants by buying gold.
The victim is told to withdraw a ton of money to buy the gold and to head to a local gold dealer to buy it. Then, someone goes to pick up the gold for the scammer. Obviously, they never get their money back and this is all a scam.
Obviously, you will never be asked to settle a warrant this way. The Platteville Police Department asks you to educate the elderly in your life so they don't become a victim.
