The Festival of Sail is happening this weekend in Duluth. Boat enthusiasts and tourists can tour these magnificent ships. Spectators got a chance to see them in action when they sailed into Duluth on Thursday afternoon. Some of the ships even fired their cannons as they entered the canal. Pretty awesome, right?

I wanted to see them up close without waiting in line, so I pulled my fishing boat out, loaded up a couple of family members (and a cooler), and headed to Canal Park to see what was up. There were definitely some surprises.

The weather wasn't particularly great at the time. The wind had picked up, and rollers were coming in under the lift bridge. There were a ton of sheriff and police boats and jet skis that escorted the ships into the harbor. Sheriff boats patrolled around the perimeter of the docked tall ships. We were able to get close enough to get some good shots.

My personal favorite boat was the When & If. It was a boat commissioned to be built by George Patton, the famous US Army World War II general. He planned to sail across the world on the sailboat "when and if" he survived the war.

We also had quite the surprise when an antique sailboat rowed into Duluth with goats onboard. Yep, that really happened. I have pictures to prove it.

Check out the photos and share any of yours with me. I'd love to see them!

See The Tall Ships In Duluth For Festival Of Sail 2025

We took the boat out to get a closer look at the tall ships in Duluth's harbor. We saw some fascinating replica sailboats, and we even got a huge surprise at the end with a boat hauling goats. That's not a typo.
