On a winter night in January the Steele County Blades junior hockey team and Owatonna's Youth 1st program hosted Stick it to Cancer Night.

The $1,000 raised is being donated to the From the Heart cancer fundraiser. Stick it to Cancer Night came during Federated Insurance Night at Four Seasons Centre. A silent auction, donation buckets and chuck-a-puck events that evening raised the money. Proceeds went to a player on the Blades' team who has a family member battling cancer and another local family.

The eighth From the Heart run is Saturday, May 7, in Owatonna. Events begin Friday at the Owatonna junior high with a spaghetti dinner, silent auction and bake sale from 4:30-8PM. This year's funds will support the local families of Julie Bauer, Royetta Spurgeon and Don Hettinga.

Shuttle bus service to Lake Kohlmier from the Federated Insurance parking lot from 7AM to noon Saturday morning. Parking is limited at the race site. Participants may pick up race packets at the dinner Friday night. Race day registration will take place from 6-7:30AM at Lake Kohlmier. A half-mile kids fun run will begin at 8:10AM.
