What Food Do You Think Minnesota Should Be Known For?

If you enjoy eating like I do, the thought may have crossed your mind at one time or another about what foods are different states known for. When you think Minnesota, most people automatically come up with tater tot hotdish. Well, according to Spoon University, you’re close. They chose tater tots for Minnesota.

I agree, but as much as I like those delicious little alternative to french fries, at some of my favorite local restaurants I’d still prefer them mixed into whatever variation of tater tot hotdish you prepare. I can honestly say I’ve never been served a bad tater tot hotdish.

Spam is the other food that is identifiable with Minnesota, but Hawaii has some sort of obsession with that Austin, Minn.-based meat product.

Of course Maine has lobsters, Louisiana has crawfish (I’ll take a pass on those), Missouri has BBQ (as in ribs), Kentucky has chicken and New York comes up with bagels. Some of the odder choices include the runza for Nebraska, which is a yeast dough bread pocket stuffed with a variation of beef, pork, onions, cabbage or sauerkraut and seasonings. I’d be willing to give that a try.

New Hampshire has cider doughnuts, which don’t sound very good but I’d be willing to try them. Illinois ended up with meat, not very imaginative. They should have tried to zero in on a specific meat or at least beef, pork, poultry, lamb or something.

That’s just a little taste of the list of states and their respective foods, check out the list for yourself and see what states correspond with some of your food faves.
