In August, Tennessee was the 36th state to ratify the amendment, sending it to the nation's capital and early that same morning, Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby signed it without ceremony.

A doubleheader of baseball with opponents Brooklyn Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds was the first broadcast on television in 1939 with just two cameras.

The cameras were placed on the third base line by the visitors dugout and behind home plate. Radio Broadcaster Red Barber called the game for TV. Reds won the first game 5-2. Dodgers split the series with a win 6-1.

Columbia and Princeton baseball games were broadcast in May 1939 with one camera. College and professional football also was broadcast that same year, with hockey and basketball to follow in 1940.
