William Matthews, the Wayzata Police Officer that was struck and killed last week will be laid to rest on Thursday. The funeral is set for 1pm at Wayzata Free Church with interment at Summit Park Cemetery. Visitation is at the church Wednesday night from 3 to 8pm.

He was married and the father of a 7 year old boy. He was with the Wayzata department  for nine years. Before that he had been intern with the Rochester Police Department, and worked as a reserve for the Winona Police. He also worked as an officer in Zumbrota, and worked for the Goodhue and Olmsted County Sheriff's offices. He gradauated from Pine Island High School.

At Wayzata he was a field training officer, firearms instructor and a reserve coordinator.

He was struck by 54 year old Beth Freeman of Mound. She is being held on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide. Her license at the time of the collision had a revoked status. She has an extensive criminal record including convictions for aggravated and careless driving, drunk driving and driving without a license as well as some drug possession convictions.
