A 50-year-old Waseca man has been charged for DWI and driving while on a canceled license after he put his van into a ditch east of Mankato on Saturday. His two young children were seated behind him and their mother was seated next to him.

According to the Star Tribune and the criminal complaint, William Fuller, 50, of Waseca, was charged in Blue Earth County District Court. His license had been taken away previously because he was deemed a threat to public safety.

Two hours after the accident Saturday, his blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.22 by a sheriff's deputy. That is nearly three times the legal limit.

A 911 caller had alerted authorities to the vehicle in the ditch because of concern for the two children in car seats in the second row. The deputy said Fuller had an overwhelming alcohol smell, and was stumbling and swaying. He refused a field sobriety test and was arrested. The mother had also been drinking.

The gross-misdemeanor charges against Fuller noted that he has seven previous drunken-driving convictions on his record dating from 1985 to December 2014. He also was sentenced late last year in a domestic assault case.

The court bail report shows, Fuller is a longtime Waseca resident who has worked as a contractor for 25 years. He was released from jail Monday after posting bond ahead of a court appearance next week.
